Mühlwald
The matches of the tournament are held on the new artificial grass pitch in Mühlwald, which is only a few minutes by foot from the village centre. The facility offers the best conditions for both players and spectators, with its new changing rooms, spectator terraces and a bar. The facility is managed by the local football club SSV Mühlwald, which plays an important role in village life. Anyway, sports play an important role here, including mountain running and tennis. The village is home to a top athlete in ski mountaineering: his name is Manfred Reichegger and he uses a number of mountain tops for his trainings. Information about the sports club can be found at www.ssv-muehlwald.com.
The small municipality of Mühlwald lies at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level in the centre of a valley full of water. The valley starts at Mühlen in Taufers in a western direction, bending halfway to the north into the glaciated mountains of the Zillertal Alps. At the end of the valley, at 1860 m, is the Neves Reservoir. Its water reflects the Hohe Weiszint (3371 m), the Große Möseler (3480 m) and Turnerkamp (3418 m), all part of the Zillertal main ridge, which forms the border with Austria. In the valley there are two main communities, Mühlwald and Lappach, and numerous smaller hamlets, which are inhabited by industrious people who are known for the fact that they love to sing and make music. Their choirs are known all over the province. Their farmhouses are spread along the hillsides. In summer the people of Mühlwald very much like to adorn their farmhouses with red geraniums. Against their dazzling white walls, they form a symbol of Tyrol, red and white like the flag.
The water in the valley runs into the Mühlwald River. In spring the river fills to its brim as from all directions small brooks and mountain streams water into the river. The river itself starts at a large mountain lake that is surrounded by silver glaciers. On its way down it feeds another small lake, which is spanned by panoramic bridge. All this makes Mühlwald one of the valleys with the greatest abundance of water in the country, green, fresh and pristine.
The Water Museum at the Lappacher Parish House has a lot to tell about all this water. Hiking is also a very important activity in this valley. To shelters, to mountain huts, to peaks and to the crosses up on the mountain tops. Climbing and mountaineering to mountain peaks, steep walls, to glaciers with panoramic views. Mountain bike trips in the Mühlwald Valley are particularly worthwhile, passing by the red and white farmhouses, along quiet mountain roads and high altitude paths. Here fishermen will be happy with all the surrounding lakes and streams ... for example at the very small Wengsee Lake: its quiet, wild beauty is overwhelming. In winter, cross-country skiers mark their trails in the soft powder snow, passing along the small stream. The Venice Sawmill stands in the landscape, barely visible with all the snow. The sledders rejoice under the evening moon, on a rapid ride down into the valley. This is a good place to be.
